Close your eyes and think of IT operations in the financial sector. Chances are you’re thinking of technologies like mainframes, Cobol, and other tools that have been around for decades. But when you work at FlowFactor, you know you get to work on the cutting edge of technology.
We recently had the opportunity to work with a company called everyoneINVESTED. They develop behavioral technology that integrates in banking apps to help people make better investment decisions. We helped them set up a cloud-native infrastructure, using Azure DevOps to ensure that they could flexibly deploy their financial services to banks all over the world. The project had a strong focus on security, and we helped everyoneINVESTED to optimize their cloud costs. Read ahead to learn more about how we did it.
Cloud native infrastructure
everyoneINVESTED started out as an innovation team within the KBC banking group. Their mission was to enrich mobile and online banking with features that recruit investors and increase the investment business. everyoneINVESTED builds its solutions on the unique expertise in applied behavioral finance. After a number of successful projects it was agreed to position everyoneINVESTED as a stand-alone company, providing their services to banks all over the world.
This meant that they needed to set up a new IT infrastructure, one that would allow them to deploy their services quickly & securely to banks all over the world. Integrating an external service in the banking sector comes with a lot of regulations & compliance requirements. So we knew that security would be a key focus for this project.
We also knew that the infrastructure needed to be scalable, so that everyoneINVESTED could quickly adapt to changes in demand from their customers. And finally, it needed to be flexible enough to allow them to deploy their services in different configurations, depending on the needs of each individual bank.
Working together, we decided that the best way to meet all of these requirements was to set up a cloud-native infrastructure on Azure. This would give everyoneINVESTED the flexibility they needed to quickly deploy their services, while also ensuring that the infrastructure was secure and compliant.
Azure DevOps
Once we had decided on the Azure platform, we needed to choose the right toolset to help everyoneINVESTED build & deploy their services. Luckily, Azure comes equipped with Azure DevOps, a set of tools that makes it easy to develop, deploy & manage cloud-based applications.
Using Azure DevOps, we were able to quickly set up a continuous integration & delivery (CI/CD) pipeline. This meant that everyoneINVESTED could automatically build & deploy their services whenever they made a change to the codebase.
Azure DevOps also offers a number of other benefits, such as:
- The ability to automatically run tests & security scans on every build
- A central repository for all code & configurations
- Detailed logging & monitoring of builds & deployments
Overall, Azure DevOps helped us to set up a robust & secure infrastructure that could flexibly accommodate the needs of everyoneINVESTED.
Focusing on security
As mentioned before, security was a key focus for this project. We needed to make sure that the infrastructure we set up was secure & compliant with all the relevant regulations. One of the most important tools for this aim was Azure Front Door, Microsoft’s cloud Content Delivery Network (CDN) that provides fast, reliable, and secure access between users and applications across the globe.
In addition, Azure Front Door provides a number of security features, such as:
- WAF: Azure Front Door’s Web Application Firewall (WAF) protects against common web exploits that could jeopardize the availability & performance of everyoneINVESTED’s services.
- Zero Trust: Azure Front Door provides a zero-trust security model, which means that users are only granted access to the resources they need, and nothing more. This helps to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
